Nintendo's 8-bit console launched in Japan in July 1983 as the Family Computer, or Famicom. It reached North America in 1985 and Europe in 1986–87 as the Nintendo Entertainment System, with a different case and larger 72-pin cartridges. In Russia and other post-Soviet countries most people met it through Dendy, a Famicom-compatible clone sold from 1992, and through unlicensed multi-game cartridges whose titles often differed from the official ones. Many games changed names, difficulty or content between regions, which is why one game can appear here under three or four names.
