DuckTales 2 had the same name in North America and Europe, and in Japan it was ダックテイルズ2 on both Famicom and Game Boy. The easiest legal way to play the NES version today is The Disney Afternoon Collection on Steam, PlayStation, Xbox or Switch.

DuckTales 2 is Capcom's sequel to the 1989 DuckTales, based on the Disney animated series. The NES version came out in Japan on 23 April 1993, in North America in June 1993 and in Europe on 18 November 1993, and a Game Boy port appeared in all three regions the same year. Tokuro Fujiwara produced the game, Ichirou Mihara designed it and Keiji Inafune worked on the art.

As in Mega Man, players choose the order of levels and can return to finished ones. Gyro Gearloose sells cane upgrades that open hidden areas. Collecting every map piece unlocks an optional sixth stage with McDuck's lost treasure, while finishing with no money leads to a bad ending.

Coming out near the end of the NES's life, the game sold poorly, and the NES cartridge is now rare. The NES version is included in The Disney Afternoon Collection, released in 2017 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One and in 2026 for Switch.1

Reception

Nintendo Power praised the NES version's controls and graphics but called it 'more of the same'; GamePro gave the NES game 4/5 and the Game Boy version 4.5/5. A small print run and a late release made the NES cartridge rare among collectors.1
