Nintendo's Ice Hockey kept the same name everywhere: アイスホッケー in Japan, where it first appeared on the Famicom Disk System, and Ice Hockey on the NES. Today the NES version is playable in the Nintendo Switch Online library.

Ice Hockey is a sports game that Nintendo released for the Famicom Disk System in Japan on 21 January 1988; the NES version reached North America in March 1988. It was developed by Nintendo R&D4 and Pax Softnica, directed by Hideki Konno and produced by Masayuki Uemura and Shigeru Miyamoto, with music by Soyo Oka.

Teams have five players including the goaltender instead of the six of real hockey, and a game lasts three periods. Players choose from three body types: a fast but weak skater who is good at face-offs, an average all-rounder, and a slow but powerful player who is poor at face-offs. When two opponents fight over the puck for a while, others join the scuffle, and the loser goes to the penalty box. The six selectable nations are Japan, the USA, Poland, Canada, the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia, all with identical stats.

The game returned on the Wii Virtual Console in 2006, on the Wii U in 2013 and on Nintendo Switch Online in September 2018.12
