TaleSpin kept the same name in North America and Europe and never came out in Japan. The easiest legal way to play the NES game today is The Disney Afternoon Collection on Steam, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.

TaleSpin is a scrolling shooter that Capcom released for the NES in North America in December 1991, based on the Disney animated series of the same name. The player flies Baloo's plane, the Seaduck, and can turn it around to fly back through horizontally scrolling areas. Money collected along the way buys plane upgrades between stages, and bonus levels put Kit on his airfoil to pop balloons for points.

The story pits Baloo, Kit and Rebecca Cunningham against Don Karnage's Air Pirates, hired by Shere Khan to sabotage their cargo business. The European NES release followed on 24 September 1992, and a stripped-down Game Boy port reached North America in December 1992. Sega and NEC made their own TaleSpin games for the Genesis, Game Gear and TurboGrafx-16, but those were platform games, not shooters.

The NES version is one of six Capcom games in The Disney Afternoon Collection, released on 18 April 2017 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One and later for Switch.123

Reception

Contemporary scores were modest: Total! gave the NES version 59% and AllGame 2.5 out of 5, while Super Gamer rated the Game Boy version 65%. Reviews of The Disney Afternoon Collection often called TaleSpin the weakest game in the set, citing its slow rate of fire and precise enemy shots.1
