Super Bomberman kept its name in every region (スーパーボンバーマン in Japan) and was the first game in the series to keep the Bomberman name in Europe. The easiest legal way to play it today is SUPER BOMBERMAN COLLECTION on Steam, which includes the Japanese, US and European versions.

Super Bomberman was developed by Produce! and released by Hudson Soft for the Super Famicom in Japan on April 28, 1993. It reached North America in September 1993 and Europe in November 1993, where Sony Electronic Publishing released it. It was the first game in the series to keep the Bomberman name in Europe instead of becoming Dynablaster or Eric and the Floaters.

The game came with the Super Multitap, an adapter that adds four controller ports. Normal Game is a one- or two-player co-op mode of six worlds with eight stages each, while Battle Mode lets one to four human or CPU players fight in twelve arenas. Mikio Ueyama directed it, and Jun Chikuma and Tomoyuki Hamada wrote the music.

In Japan it sold about 497,000 copies according to Famitsu. In 2004 it was included in the Japanese Windows compilation Bomberman Collection Vol. 2, and in 2026 in SUPER BOMBERMAN COLLECTION.1
