Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! is a 3D platformer developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation. It came out in North America on 2 November 1999 and three days later, on 5 November, in PAL regions under the title Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer. Insomniac president Ted Price said the sequel was meant to give experienced players a greater challenge, with more depth and variety than the first game.
Stewart Copeland returned to compose the music, and Tom Kenny replaced Carlos Alazraqui as the voice of Spyro. According to the Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine, the villain's name Ripto came from the Japanese katakana spelling of Spyro.
Japan received a reworked edition, Spyro X Sparx: Tondemo Tours, on 16 March 2000. It did not catch on there, and the third game was never released in Japanese. In 2018 the game returned as part of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.12
