Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge is the 1991 sequel to The Secret of Monkey Island. LucasArts released it in December 1991 on six floppy disks for MS-DOS and Mac OS, and U.S. Gold published it in Europe. Ron Gilbert directed and designed it, with Tim Schafer and Dave Grossman among the writers and programmers. Work started soon after the first game came out in October 1990 and took about a year; Gilbert began before a sequel had been formally approved.
It was the sixth LucasArts game on the SCUMM engine and the first to use iMUSE, the adaptive music system co-designed by composers Michael Land and Peter McConnell. An Amiga version on eleven disks followed in 1992, and in Japan the game appeared only on FM Towns, in 1994, published by Victor Entertainment. Gilbert left LucasArts in 1992 to co-found Humongous Entertainment.
In July 2010 LucasArts released Monkey Island 2 Special Edition for Windows, iOS, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with new art and Dominic Armato voicing Guybrush.12
