Version differences
-
AudioNES (NA)
The North American version has a reworked prologue theme because its translated opening cutscene runs longer.1
-
TitleFamicom (JP)NES (NA)
The US title screen drops the Japanese subtitle, uses a larger logo without the Japanese bleed-in effect and says "Press Start" instead of "Game Start".1
-
TextFamicom (JP)NES (NA)
In the English text "ROCKMAN" became "MEGAMAN" and the number 6 became VI. Several lines were rewritten: Mr. X's defeat line is more detailed in Japanese, and a line that addresses Rockman by name simply says "you" in English.1
-
CoverNES (NA)
The North American box art shows Knight Man and Wind Man, the two Robot Masters designed by North American fans.2
-
ContentPlayStation (Rockman Complete Works)
The Japan-only PlayStation version adds remixed music, artwork galleries and a navi mode.2
-
AudioMega Man Anniversary Collection
The Anniversary Collection pairs the Japanese prologue music with the American dialogue, so the music stops partway through the cutscene. It also fixes the "faild" typo in Mr. X's line, a fix later re-releases did not keep.1
