Tomba! came out in Japan as Ore! Tomba (オレっ!トンバ) and in Europe as Tombi!. The easiest legal way to play it today is Tomba! Special Edition (2024) from Limited Run Games, sold on Steam and also released for PS5, Switch and, in 2025, PS4.

Tomba! is a 2D action-adventure platformer created by Tokuro Fujiwara, the designer behind the Makaimura (Ghosts 'n Goblins) series. After 13 years at Capcom he left in December 1995 and founded Whoopee Camp, which released the game in Japan on 25 December 1997. Sony Computer Entertainment brought it to North America on 16 July 1998 and to Europe, as Tombi!, in August 1998. Harumi Fujita, Fujiwara's longtime Capcom collaborator, wrote the music.

The game is built around a non-linear "event" system with 130 events in total. The Western release is not a straight translation: it loads faster, controls more responsively and adds Gouraud shading to backgrounds. Sales justified a sequel, Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return (1999), but that one sold less and Whoopee Camp disbanded.

The first game later built a cult following. In 2024 Limited Run Games revived it as Tomba! Special Edition, an emulated release with a new soundtrack by Fujita.12
