Theme Hospital is a business simulation by Bullfrog Productions, published by Electronic Arts for MS-DOS and Windows on 28 March 1997. Mark Webley designed and produced it, with art by Gary Carr. Peter Molyneux was not directly involved because he was busy with Dungeon Keeper.
For research the team visited Royal Surrey County Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital and Frimley Park Hospital. Real illnesses were swapped for invented ones: Bloaty Head was based on an allergic reaction Molyneux had, and King Complex started out as Elvis Impersonator until it turned out that Elvis's estate owned the rights. A Saturn version, called Sim Hospital as of October 1995, was cancelled.
Krisalis Software ported the game to the PlayStation; it came out in Europe in February 1998 and in Japan on 18 June 1998. The PlayStation version was later reissued on PlayStation Network, and the PC version returned on GOG in 2012.1
