The Minish Cap was released in Japan as Zeruda no Densetsu: Fushigi no Bōshi (ゼルダの伝説 ふしぎのぼうし) and under its English title everywhere else. The easiest legal way to play it today is the Game Boy Advance library of Nintendo Switch Online, where it was added on February 8, 2023.

The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap is a Game Boy Advance action-adventure developed by Capcom and its Flagship studio, the team behind Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages, and published by Nintendo. It was directed by Hidemaro Fujibayashi, who joined Nintendo after the game came out.

Japan got it first, on November 4, 2004. Unusually, Europe came next on November 12, 2004, two months ahead of North America on January 10, 2005: Nintendo of Europe wanted a Christmas hit, while Nintendo of America did not want it to compete with the new Nintendo DS. European shops also sold it alongside a limited Triforce edition of the Game Boy Advance SP, made in 25,000 units.

The European cartridge holds five languages, and its English script is a different translation from the American one. The game later returned on the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador Program in 2011, the Wii U Virtual Console in 2014 and Nintendo Switch Online in February 2023.12

The North American and European English scripts are separate translations: figurine #108, for instance, says Ice Wizzrobes are vulnerable to the Fire Rod in Europe but just weak against fire in North America.3

  • TextGBA (EU)

The multi-language European cartridge uses five languages, and its language menu also hides two unused entries, American English and Japanese.3

Europe got the game before North America because Nintendo of Europe wanted a Christmas hit, while Nintendo of America delayed it to January 2005 to avoid competing with the Nintendo DS; in Europe it also came alongside a limited Triforce edition Game Boy Advance SP of 25,000 units.2

Reception

Reviews were largely positive, with a 92% GameRankings average, and GameSpot named it its Game of the Year and best Game Boy Advance game of 2005. The main complaints were its short length (RPGamer estimated about ten hours for the six dungeons), the repetitive Kinstone fusion system and its low difficulty.2
