Version differences

  • DifficultyPS1 (NA)PS1 (EU)

The Western PlayStation release is harder than the Japanese one: auto-aim is off, enemies are tougher and hit harder, and each ink ribbon gives two saves instead of three. American staff asked for this so the game could not be finished during a short rental.1

  • CensorshipPS1 (NA)PS1 (EU)

The live-action intro was trimmed overseas, removing mangled bodies, a dog being shot and Joseph's death; Kenneth's severed head was cut from the first zombie scene, and Chris's smoking was removed from the cast roll and an ending.1

  • AudioPS1 (JP)

Only the Japanese PlayStation release has vocal songs over the cast roll and ending; the Western versions and the Japanese Director's Cut use the instrumentals "Terror" and "Still Dawn" instead.1

  • CensorshipWindows

The Windows version is the only one with all live-action footage uncensored, including a full-color intro and Kenneth's death scene.2

  • ContentWindows

The PC port adds 3D accelerator support, new outfits and unlockable weapons: a MAC-10 for Jill and an FN Minimi for Chris.2

  • ContentSega Saturn

The Saturn version adds an unlockable Battle Mode with a zombie Wesker and a gold Tyrant, new Tick enemies, a second Tyrant fight in Chris's game and exclusive outfits.2

  • CensorshipDirector's Cut (NA)Director's Cut (FR/DE)

The North American Director's Cut was advertised as uncensored but shipped with the cut intro by mistake, and Capcom made the uncut video available online for free. The French and German Director's Cut are the only PlayStation releases with the uncut color prologue.2

  • ContentNintendo DS

Deadly Silence adds Rebirth Mode, with more enemies, touch-screen and microphone puzzles, first-person knife fights and wireless play for up to four players.2
