Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee is a platform and puzzle game developed by Oddworld Inhabitants and published by GT Interactive. It went on sale in North America and Europe on September 19, 1997, and a PC port by Digital Dialect followed on November 11, 1997. Lorne Lanning directed it under the working title Soul Storm, and its GameSpeak voice commands were partly inspired by the audio puzzles of Loom. The budget was $4 million, while GT Interactive spent $10 million on marketing. It was planned as the first part of a five-part series.
The Japanese release, Abe a GoGo, had Shūya Akimoto as general producer and changed more than the title: the box art, some voices including Abe's and even the Mudokons' number of fingers were altered, and some of those changes carried over to later versions worldwide.
The PC version came to Steam in 2008, and the PlayStation original was re-released on PS3 and later PS5. In 2014 the game was remade as Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty.12
