Mega Man Legends is an action-adventure game developed by Capcom Production Studio 2. It came out in Japan as Rockman DASH on 18 December 1997 and in North America on 10 September 1998. Producer Keiji Inafune wanted a Mega Man game unlike any before, mixing action, RPG and adventure, and Yoshinori Kawano directed it. All of its humanoid characters were animated with motion capture.
The game went through several names: it appeared at E3 in June 1997 as Mega Man Neo, was briefly renamed Mega Man Nova in January 1998 and was confirmed as Mega Man Legends in March 1998. The Japanese opening theme Another Sun and the ending song were performed by Reika Morishita.
Ports followed on Nintendo 64, where the North American release was called Mega Man 64, on Windows and on PSP. The story continued in the prequel The Misadventures of Tron Bonne and the sequel Mega Man Legends 2.1

An adult magazine item in the Japanese version became a comic book in the Western releases, and the Japanese PSP port uses the comic book too.3

Reception
The PlayStation original averages 73.73% on GameRankings, and Famitsu gave it 31/40. The Nintendo 64 and PC ports were criticized for adding little: the N64 version scored 59/100 on Metacritic and GameSpot gave the PC version 3.6/10. Keiji Inafune said the game did not sell well, coming out years before sandbox games became popular.1
