ContentArcade (NA) Life Force
The American arcade Life Force adds an opening text that places the game inside an alien organism, makes starfield backgrounds organic and renames the power-ups (Hyper Speed, Destruct Missile, Pulse Laser, Shield); the Japanese and European Salamander are nearly identical.1
-
GraphicsArcade (JP) Life Force, 1987
The 1987 Japanese Life Force redraws backgrounds and mechanical enemies with an organic look, switches to the Gradius power-up gauge and changes some music.1
-
GameplayFamicomNES
The Famicom and NES versions use the Gradius-style power bar instead of instant pick-ups, cut some stages and bosses, add three continues and drop the voice samples.2
-
ContentNES (NA/EU)
Compared with the Famicom Salamander, the NES Life Force has no multiple endings and allows two options instead of three; the Konami Code raises the lives from three to 30.1
-
GameplayMSX
The MSX version is a substantially different game, with an illustrated intro, longer named stages, checkpoint restarts, a choice of stage order after the second level and two endings.1
-

The Wii Virtual Console and Arcade Archives releases remove the screen-flashing effect.2
