Version differences

  • AudioNES

The opening theme and the regular battle theme were changed in the NES version.1

  • GameplayNES

On the Disk System all three attributes cost the same amount of experience, and saving keeps every attribute only at the level of the lowest one; the NES version gives each attribute its own cost and drops that rule.2

  • GraphicsNES

On the Disk System palaces are only gray or green; on the NES each palace has its own color, and the overworld enemy icons were redrawn.2

  • ContentNES

The fifth palace boss was replaced with a new knight swinging a ball and chain, and Volvagia was renamed Barba.1

  • TextNES

The NES game over screen shows Ganon's silhouette with "Game Over / Return of Ganon" instead of a plain black "Return of Ganon / The End" screen.2

  • DifficultyNES

Some enemies were changed or repositioned in the overseas version and made generally tougher.1
