Valkyrie Profile is an RPG developed by tri-Ace and published by Enix for the PlayStation. It came out in Japan on 22 December 1999 and in North America on 29 August 2000. Yoshiharu Gotanda directed it, Yoshinori Yamagishi produced it, Masaki Norimoto designed and wrote it, and Motoi Sakuraba composed the music.
By September 2005 the PlayStation version had sold over 709,000 copies worldwide, 636,000 of them in Japan. Used copies of the PlayStation release have sold for about $300, more than the original retail price.
Europe only received the game with the PSP port Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, made by Tose and released there on 27 April 2007. A mobile version by FINE followed in Japan on 22 March 2018 and worldwide on 28 May 2018, and on 22 December 2022 the game returned on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 through software emulation. By 2016 the series as a whole had shipped 2.2 million copies.12

Version differences
-
GameplayPlayStation (NA)
The English PlayStation version added more cinematics, lets players change armor for every character instead of only the active party, and tells players when Lenneth switches between sword and bow.1
-
CensorshipPlayStation (NA)
Some text was softened in translation and Badrach's cigarette was removed, though his smoking animation stayed; blood, drinking and sexual remarks were kept.1
-
ContentPSP
Lenneth on PSP is based on the Japanese PlayStation version, so it lacks the English version's gameplay tweaks but keeps its extra cinematics; new full-motion videos replace the anime story scenes.1
