In North America the game is Twisted Metal 2; in Europe it was released as Twisted Metal World Tour. It was later re-released on PlayStation Network in Japan and North America in 2007 and on PS4 and PS5 in 2023.

Twisted Metal 2 is a vehicular combat game developed by SingleTrac with Sony Interactive Studios America and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. It came out for the PlayStation in North America on 8 November 1996 and in Europe in February 1997 under the name Twisted Metal World Tour. A Windows version followed on 13 November 1997.

SingleTrac began brainstorming the sequel in late 1995 and had 16 months of development time. The battles leave Los Angeles for a world tour through Moscow, Paris, Amazonia, New York City, Antarctica, the Netherlands and Hong Kong. One oddity: if the game is completed in co-operative mode, there is no ending.

The game also ended up in court. The ice cream truck company Frosty Treats sued Sony over trademarks and the killer clown Sweet Tooth, but the Eighth Circuit ruled against the trademark claims. The PlayStation version sold 1.74 million copies in the United States.1
