Super Star Wars is a 1992 side-scrolling run-and-gun and platform game for the SNES, based on the 1977 film Star Wars and broken up by vehicle stages. Sculptured Software and LucasArts developed it, JVC Musical Industries published it, and Kalani Streicher served as director, producer and designer. Composer Paul Webb arranged the film's music for the SNES's 8-channel sound chip using samples from Ensoniq keyboards.
Cartridge space shaped the game: a trash compactor level was cut, and planned character outlines were dropped because they looked too cartoonish. Other versions never made it at all. Sega Interactive worked on a Mega Drive version from late 1992 into 1993 before it was cancelled, and its prototype was dumped in 2020; a PC port was cancelled in 1995.
The game was followed by Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back in 1993 and Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi in 1994. In November 2015 Code Mystics ported it to PS4 and PS Vita for Disney Interactive Studios.1
