Sea Dogs is the English title of the Russian game Корсары: Проклятье дальних морей (Corsairs: Curse of the Distant Seas). Both GOG and Steam sell it today with English and Russian included.

Sea Dogs is a role-playing game developed by the Russian studio Akella and released in November 2000. In Russia 1C published it as Корсары: Проклятье дальних морей, while Ubisoft released it in Europe on 24 November 2000 and Bethesda Softworks in North America on 27 November 2000. It is often credited as one of the first successful Russian games and influenced the Russian game industry.

Inspired by Sid Meier's Pirates!, Sea Dogs is a dialogue-driven RPG in which the player can serve a European power as a privateer or become a pirate. There are four sides to choose from (British, French, Spanish or pirate) and 20 ship types with location-based damage.

Its sequel, Sea Dogs II, became Pirates of the Caribbean when Disney acquired it during development. The original came to Steam on 14 January 2018, with English and Russian.12

How to run it today

Buy Sea Dogs on GOG or Steam; both include English and Russian. GOG lists Windows XP to 10 and warns that Intel HD graphics and multi-GPU setups are not supported. Retail discs need the disc in the drive and should be updated to patch 1.06 (international) or 1.061 (Russian). PCGamingWiki fixes for modern Windows: if text is invisible, edit RESOURCE\INI\fonts.ini and replace the broken fonts (log-russ, log-russ-Italic, seawolf) with Arial; for the "DxInit: The operation is not supported" error, set a supported resolution in engine.ini; for colour problems in windowed mode, use reduced colour mode or 16-bit desktop colour.
