Icewind Dale is a role-playing game developed by Black Isle Studios and published by Interplay. The Windows version came out in North America on 29 June 2000. It uses BioWare's Infinity Engine, with pre-rendered backgrounds, sprite characters and an isometric view, and a modified Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition ruleset.
Feargus Urquhart directed the game; the designers included Josh Sawyer and Chris Avellone, and Jeremy Soule composed the music. The Heart of Winter expansion followed on 21 February 2001, and the Trials of the Luremaster add-on in July 2001.
The game returned on GOG.com with its expansions on 6 October 2010. In 2014 Overhaul Games remade it as Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition for Windows, OS X, Linux, Android and iOS.1
