Heroes of Might and Magic: A Strategic Quest is a turn-based strategy game designed by Jon Van Caneghem and developed and published by New World Computing for DOS in 1995. It is a spin-off of the Might and Magic role-playing series.
The story follows Lord Morglin Ironfist, who flees his homeworld through a portal and lands in Enroth, a land contested by four rulers. Players lead one of four factions: the might-based Knight and Barbarian or the magic-based Sorceress and Warlock, and battles take place on a hexagonal grid.
A Windows 95 edition followed in 1996, and a Game Boy Color port appeared in 2000. By October 1997 the game, Heroes II and its expansion had sold over 500,000 copies combined.12
