Version differences

  • GameplayArcadeNES

The NES game is very different from the arcade original, which uses two directional attack buttons (left and right) instead of punch and kick.1

  • DifficultyFamicom (JP)NES (NA/EU)

In Japan all nine missions are playable on any difficulty. In the Western NES release, Practice ends after Mission 3, Warrior after Mission 8, and only Supreme Master reaches the final mission.2

  • DifficultyFamicom (JP)NES (NA/EU)

The Famicom version offers continues by default, while the Western release hides them behind a code on the Game Over screen; the Japanese Difficult setting is also harder than Supreme Master.2

  • TextFamicom (JP)NES (NA/EU)

Difficulty levels are Easy/Normal/Difficult in Japan and Practice/Warrior/Supreme Master in the West, where an "Acclaim presents" title and a separate copyright screen were added.2

  • GraphicsFamicom (JP)NES (NA/EU)

Several cutscene images were redrawn for the West: Abore's hair is blond in Japan but brown abroad, and the Western opening adds a shot of Billy posing.2

  • ContentArcadeMega Drive

The Mega Drive version is a straight arcade port, but it drops the enemy Jeff, lengthens Mission 2 and uses smaller, less colorful sprites.1
