Version differences
-
GameplaySNES (JP)
The Japanese Super Donkey Kong is easier: many levels have extra DK Barrels or fewer enemies, King K. Rool moves more slowly, and the title screen was redrawn to match the Japanese box art.1
-
Bug fixSNES (NA) v1.1SNES (NA) v1.2SNES (EU) v1.1
Later US revisions fixed several glitches, such as an animal-swap trick and mine-cart and warp bugs, and gave Mini-Neckys collision. The European v1.1 received the bug fixes but not these gameplay changes.1
-
TextSNES (EU)
European cartridges have a language menu with English, French and German. The German text is complete, while the French option displays garbage graphics.2
-
ContentCompetition Cartridge
The Blockbuster Video competition cartridge, based on US v1.2, adds scoring and a five-minute timer, starts with 50 lives and chains levels together. Only about 2,500 copies are known.1
-
ContentGBCGBA
The Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance ports have weaker graphics and sound but add minigames. The GBC version redesigns one level and adds another; the GBA version adds an intro cutscene, saving anywhere and a time-trial mode.3
-
GraphicsVirtual Console
The Virtual Console release removes the full-screen white flash in Torchlight Trouble to reduce seizure risk.1
