Digimon World kept its name everywhere: デジモンワールド (Dejimon Wārudo) in Japan and Digimon World in North America and Europe. There is no current digital store release on record; the game exists only in its original PlayStation editions.

Digimon World is a role-playing game with digital-pet mechanics, developed by BEC and published by Bandai for the PlayStation. It came out in Japan on 28 January 1999, in North America on 23 May 2000 and in Europe on 6 July 2001, where Infogrames handled distribution. The English version was localized by Flying Tiger Development, and that work later led Namco to hire the studio for Time Crisis: Project Titan.

The player raises a partner Digimon, and neglect has consequences: a poorly cared-for partner digivolves into Numemon, a weaker Champion form. Bandai marketed the game heavily against Pokémon, and the first 100,000 North American buyers received a promotional trading card.

In Europe, an error during localization left most PAL copies impossible to finish. Years later, the PSP game Digimon World Re:Digitize by Tri-Crescendo was designed as a callback to this original.1
