Version differences
-
TitleJPEU
Japan released the game as Vampire Killer (バンパイアキラー) and Europe as Castlevania: The New Generation; the European rename came together with the blood censorship.1
-
CensorshipEU
The European version recolors zombies from pink with red blood to blue-green with green blood, removes hanging corpses and dripping blood, turns the blood fountain in Stage 5 into an ordinary fountain and cuts the crow-eaten corpse outside the castle.1
-
DifficultyJPEUNA
Japan's Normal mode is roughly equal to American Easy, and Japan's hidden Expert mode (unlocked with the Konami Code) matches American Normal. The North American release was made harder, while Europe kept the Japanese balance.1
-
GameplayJP
In the Japanese version the password appears only after choosing End on the game-over screen, and entering it restores a full set of lives and continues.1
-
TextJP
John Morris is called Johnny Morris in the Japanese version, and Eric Lecarde's face is drawn more masculine in the international intro and Expert ending.1
-
GameplayEU
The PAL version runs slower and moves or removes some enemies and items; some enemies also respawn there when they do not in other versions.1
