In the West the game is Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse; in Japan it was released as アイラブミッキーマウス ふしぎのお城大冒険 (Ai Rabu Mikkī Mausu: Fushigi no Oshiro Daibōken). The original Genesis game was later included in the Mega Drive Mini (2019) and as an emulated bonus with the 2013 PS3 remake.

Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse is a side-scrolling platformer that Sega released for the Mega Drive in Japan on 21 November 1990 and in North America in December 1990. Mickey collects seven gems across five levels and a final castle. The Genesis version was directed by Emiko Yamamoto.

Sega also made separate 8-bit versions for the Master System and Game Gear. Directed by Yoshio Yoshida, they share the name but have their own levels and mechanics. The game started the Illusion series, which continued with World of Illusion and Land of Illusion in 1992.

The Genesis game was bundled with QuackShot on a 1996 Disney Collection cartridge and on a 1998 Saturn release in Japan. In 2013 Sega Studios Australia released a 2.5D remake supervised by Emiko Yamamoto, with music by Grant Kirkhope; the remake is a separate game.1
