Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn was released under the same name everywhere. The easiest way to play it today is Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, sold on Steam and GOG for Windows, macOS and Linux and also available on consoles since 2019.

Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn is a role-playing game developed by BioWare and published by Black Isle Studios and Interplay. The Windows version came out in North America on 21 September 2000. It runs on the Infinity Engine and supports up to six players in multiplayer.

James Ohlen and Kevin Martens designed the game, with Ohlen also serving as lead writer; Michael Hoenig composed the score, and David Warner voiced the villain Jon Irenicus. In its first 14 days the game earned $4 million in North America, a record for an Interplay computer title.

The Throne of Bhaal expansion arrived in June 2001 and won the PC Role-Playing award at the 2002 Interactive Achievement Awards. The Enhanced Edition followed in 2013 for PC, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android, and reached PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch in 2019.1
