Silent Storm is a turn-based World War II tactics game developed by the Russian studio Nival Interactive. 1C released it in Russia on 22 August 2003 as Операция Silent Storm; JoWooD Productions followed in Europe on 7 November 2003 and Encore Software in North America on 20 January 2004.
Its calling card is the environment: almost every structure can be destroyed and walls can be shot through. The engine handles ragdoll physics and calculates cover in 3D, and it was reused in several later games. Before each mission the player picks five soldiers out of 40 and equips them from an arsenal of 75 weapons.
The Sentinels expansion arrived in 2004 and the successor Hammer & Sickle in 2005. The Gold Edition bundles the base game with Sentinels, and on 15 February 2026 the game's source code was made available for non-commercial use.12
