Jagged Alliance 2 is a tactical role-playing game developed by Sir-Tech Canada and directed by Ian Currie. It was originally expected in October 1998 but slipped because of major engine improvements and rewrites; in the meantime a demo map called Demoville went out with magazines in summer 1998.
The game came out first in Germany on 19 April 1999, published by TopWare Interactive, where it debuted at number one on the chart. TalonSoft released it in North America on 23 July 1999, and the rest of Europe followed on 6 August 1999. Sales in North America were weak: PC Data counted 24,000 units by the end of 1999.
The standalone Unfinished Business followed on 5 December 2000, and the Gold Pack bundling both appeared on 6 August 2002. Tribsoft ported the game to Linux in February 2001, and an OS X version arrived in November 2013. The source code shipped with the Wildfire expansion in 2004, which led to community projects such as the v1.13 mod and the cross-platform JA2-Stracciatella.12
